I presume this to be a photo taken at Willingham School sometime in the 1950s as that looks like Ted Austin in the background. Who, however, is the girl at the end of the table, bottom left of the photo? This comment is not posted as stated by Jennifer Margaret Gorner (Deceased) but by Edward Martin Gorner.

The houses in the photograph were known as British Terrace.The 1891 census shows my Grandfather’s family living at number 27,his name was Noah Hayden.
At that time he was one year old and had three older siblings.

Church Lane. The only surviving buildings today is the old school at the end (not covered into flats) on Fen end and house no.5 on Church Lane

Dr Flower took over as villiage Dr. from Dr. Cane in 1951, moving into the Limes. He moved away in 1965 after the death of his wife. His brother, killed in WW2 serving the RAF, is commememorated by a large brass lecturn in the church. He later became a ship's doctor but died during a fire on board the ship.

We came to the village in 1968, and Long's was flourishing then. Among various items mentioned they also supplied newspapers, and had a knitting wool counter presided over by Iris Smith. When the Longs retired Iris continued selling wool and sweets in the shop in Church Lane which later became a bookies. - from Anne Kirkman.
