A previous photo (Slides04_010)shows the inglenook fireplace and chimney before the new cottage was built round the chimney. Subsequently the chimney has been removed from within the cottage. (Cmnt: AndrewC)

the pipework on the right is a dewatering plant, used due to the difficult ground conditions in Willingham, Regularly spaced holes were bored in the road near to the sewer trenches, into which pipes were inserted, theseconnected tp the large iron piep, from which the ground water was pumped in order to lower the water table. Inspection of the high resolution scan shows that it says "NELSON TIPPED cigarettes" (last two words are small underneath the brand name)

The flags would appear to be the naval signal flags brought home by Ron Jeeps. Dennis told me that Ron was instructed to throw thrm overboard as they were worn out, but brought them home instead. They were used for many years at Church Garden fetes as bunting. (Cmnt: AndrewC)
